Friday, August 21 was supposed to be a celebration. After months of off-season conditioning, summer 7-on-7 tournaments, and two weeks of official preseason practices, opening night finally arrived. The stands were full. The bands were playing. The smell of concession stand hot dogs filled the air. And across Clinton County, four football teams stepped onto the field with a season's worth of hope in their helmets.

How Booster Clubs Are Responding After Week 1

If there is one thing Clinton County booster clubs know, it is how to rally. After a week of close losses, every booster organization in the county is gearing up for an even bigger Week 2. Here is what is happening behind the scenes:

• Wilmington Hurricane Boosters Association. Busy preparing for the home opener on August 28 against Miami Trace. Concession stand volunteers are being scheduled, spirit wear inventory is being restocked, and the boosters are planning a special pre-game tailgate to welcome fans back to Hurricane Stadium.
• Clinton-Massie Athletics Boosters. Gearing up for the home opener against Coldwater on August 28 at 7:30 PM. The boosters' "4 Quarter Drive" capital campaign for track and turf replacement continues, and membership renewals for 2026-27 are open. With their new 501(c)(3) status, all donations are now tax-deductible.
• Athletic Boosters of Blanchester. Following a hard-fought home loss, the boosters are rallying for a Week 2 road trip to East Clinton on August 28. They are also planning upcoming fundraisers including a potential spaghetti dinner and a golf outing, as well as seeking business sponsors for the season.
• East Clinton Athletic Boosters. President Lynette Gulley and the East Clinton boosters are organizing volunteer sign-ups and fundraising plans for the season. With the rivalry matchup against Blanchester coming up on August 28, this is a big week for the Astros' booster organization.

The marching band is an essential part of the Friday night experience, and the band boosters play a critical role in making sure students have the uniforms, instruments, and travel support they need. Coming Up: Ohio's Hospice Golf Classic This Friday

The Ohio's Hospice Annual Golf Classic is this Friday, August 28 at Elks 797 Golf Course (2593 Rombach Ave., Wilmington). This community-wide fundraiser benefits hospice programs serving Clinton County families. Registration opens at 11:00 AM, lunch at 11:30 AM, shotgun start at noon, and awards at 5:00 PM. The golf classic provides an opportunity for community members to enjoy a day on the course while supporting a vital cause. With a 12:00 PM shotgun start, participants can enjoy a full round before heading over to Friday night football action later that evening.

Clinton-Massie Sports Hall of Fame: Honoring Greatness

Earlier this year, four new members were inducted into the Clinton-Massie Sports Hall of Fame, with the ceremony held between boys basketball games at Brian P. Mudd Court.
